MINDFUL PREGNANCY YOGA

Yoga is often recommended to expectant Mums by doctors, midwives, and other medical professionals but it is important to attend pregnancy classes taught by teachers who have good knowledge and skills in this area.  I am an experienced, qualified   pregnancy yoga teacher.  I work from my private home-based studio with small classes, five students at a time, to ensure individual attention.  This is a safe, supportive, and nurturing space where you can connect with other pregnant Mums.

My pregnancy Yoga classes will help you move through the physical and emotional changes that take place during pregnancy preparing you for the birth, and the years of motherhood that follow.  These classes will empower you with tools and information and help build mental and physical strength.

Pregnancy yoga classes are peaceful, calming and gently strengthening, combining deliberate, mindful movement with breathing and meditation. I will work with you to develop an inner focus to connect with baby whilst giving yourself time to immerse yourself in your evolving experience.    I will ensure that the practice is comfortable for both you and your baby. The classes are perfect whether you are learning yoga for the first time or growing your experience.

Class Structure

Classes are taught in 5 week programmes with one class per week.

We begin with a sharing circle where, if you choose to, you are invited to talk about your experiences and ask any questions.  Sharing highs and lows in a supportive environment can be empowering and reassuring.

I will then take you through a series of yoga postures, selected specifically for pregnancy, labour, birth and breastfeeding to:

  • Build and maintain tone in the physical body in preparation for birth, especially the pelvic floor, hip, and abdominal core muscles.

  • Muscle tone helps minimise common aches and pain and facilitates post-delivery recovery.

  • Work with tight shoulders and upper back to mobilise and relieve tension.

  • Build stamina and resilience in preparation for the birth and motherhood.

  • Help to optimally position baby for birthing.

This is followed by a deep rest and meditation practice with body pillows, bolsters and other supports to ensure you can allow your body to release and completely relax.  This is done in whatever position is most comfortable to you.

Specific breathing techniques are taught throughout the class that are beneficial during pregnancy, labour, birth and after baby is born.  They are powerful tools to bring inner awareness and calm focus that is valuable during pregnancy, labour, birth and after baby is born.

POSTNATAL YOGA

A yoga class you don't need a baby sitter for as you can bring baby with you. Any age little one welcome to this class that focuses on rebuilding strength and tone as well as breathing and relaxation.
