Yoga Therapy

Therapy is treatment to help a person feel better, become healthier and strengthen especially after physical trauma or illness and during periods of emotional and mental stress.

I define Yoga Therapy as a Yogic path to holistic wellness along which the Yoga therapist and client work together, in a safe space, to empower the client’s self-healing. This process takes the individual’s needs and abilities into account and covers the areas of movement, breathing, meditation and mindfulness, lifestyle, diet, relationships, life guidance and more.

Human wellness includes our physical, mental, and spiritual selves. Habits in the way we move, and think are usually the underlying cause of our physical and emotional pain, discomfort, or dysfunction.  There are many yoga tools that can be used to work to change these habits in the pursuit of our overall wellbeing and health.  I work with the Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda 10 domains: Awareness, Feeling, Words & thoughts, Movement, Breathing, Senses & Lifestyle, Nutrition, Relationships, Life meaning and Habit and Change in these life paths.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the science of life which has the basic concept:  the capability of the individual for self-healing. By proper balancing of all the energies in the body the process of deterioration and disease can be impressively reduced.  I have some learning and understanding of Ayurvedic practices and can am evolving my knowledge and skills in this area by studying with Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda.  I can work with you on your dosha imbalances - another step towards holistic health.

What to expect

We will have an initial meeting of an hour and a half where I will take your history and gain an understanding of what your needs are and how I can support you.

I will develop a programme for you which we will go over and modify if necessary in a follow up one hour meeting to check that it meets your current needs.

Meetings that follow will review your progress and develop the programme to your requirements.

MY TRAINING

I am extensively trained to deliver Yoga Therapy, studying with 3 schools each having valuable learnings.

Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda

  • Svastha Yoga Therapeutic Essentials Programme.

This training is rooted in ancient wisdom combined with modern science and is refined by extensive application over decades.  This yoga education has given me broad skills, deep knowledge, and relevant experience to increase resilience, prevent health problems, recover from illness, and teach this to others effectively.

These teachings have been evolved by students of Sri Krishnamacharya and Dr Ganesh Mohan, raised in the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya and trained as a modern medical doctor.  They integrate a full spectrum of holistic well-being methods: movement, breathing, meditation and mindfulness, lifestyle, diet, relationships, life guidance and more.
